No…I’d argue it was shrewd to give the public the perception that they (the lawmakers) are aware that the lawmakers have done ZERO to “deserve” a pay raise.
The in-fighting between Democrats continues…leading to NO legislation…the Republicans are a party of Boobs that can’t even coalesce to take advantage of the Democrats impotence.
No, conscience wasn’t a factor…the public outcry and antipathy toward the lawmakers (and possible loss in the next election) is what led to the rejection of the pay raises.
I don’t believe that most politicians even have what we call a “conscience.”
