Living and breathing in the Second City
Carol Marin today chimes in about the Constitutional Convention. She notes, as any good journalist would, the chances of getting a Constitutional Convention in Illinois are slim. But she adds a glimmer of hope:
Meanwhile, citizens, fed up with being bystanders in this car wreck of a government, are stuck with skyrocketing gas prices, a faltering economy and a growing fear for their and their children’s futures.
Oh, and one more thing. They have wily legislators who have orchestrated a pay raise for themselves AFTER the November election, when it’s too late for voters to throw them out.
Revenge can be a powerful incentive.
The MOST powerful incentive in fact. I would bet that if we polled Illinoisans on their “approval” of the General Assembly, we’d be appalled at the numbers. Lucky for Springfield, most people and most of the media are far too focused on the presidential election to notice.
The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.
