Living and breathing in the Second City
What’s the phrase … what’s good for the Obama is good for the Palin. Something like that. Anyway, news broke this weekend that Sarah Palin’s church is sponsoring a conference to “heal” homosexuality by the power of prayer. And unfortunately for Mrs. Palin, the what-happens-at-church-stays-at-church defense isn’t going to work. We’ve already established in this election that churches matter (remember Jerimiah Wright).
So how should Palin play this. Well, first I think she has to recognize that there’s nothing she can say to make this ok to libertarian types, nor make it ok to Obama voters. But since the vast majority of Americans may actually be inclined to agree with her views on homosexuality, she may actually be able to get away with defending her personal beliefs and telling anyone who doesn’t like them to take a hike.
It will be interesting to see how it’s played. But from a substantive point of view, it certainly ends my honeymoon with Ms Sarah. She’s still a fascinating political figure, but I think I’ve fallen out of love.

Sadly, I suspect that she’ll get away with this unscathed, not because public opinion is dramatically on her side (a clear majority of Americans favor at least some rights for gay couples), but because no one is going to ask her. Only one media interview, and so many things she needs to be grilled over… I can’t wait for the debate!

I bet Biden will go after her in the debate, which should make it interesting for sure

Have you ever looked into the eyes of someone who believes you can heal “gayness” with prayer? Its a sad and lonely place. It’s even more unsettling when the person that believes that is gay.

Yeah, one of my good friends (who I\’ll admit to having a crush on) is in that situation. Years of crazy religious upbringing have totally screwed up his head, and he thinks that eventually he\’ll be able to find the right girl and settle down. There\’s just the slight problem that he\’s never met a girl he\’s interested in.

Palin\\\’s church is not sponsoring this prayer for homosexuality. it is being sponsored by focus in the family. get your facts right.

Thank god we didnt elect her. I liked McCain but that was such a terrible decision to pick her. Any other of the major candidates and he had my vote.
