The Tribune is report that the General Assembly is close to a CTA bailout. The legislation would take about $385 million in gas-tax dollars and put it toward CTA’s bottomless pit:

But RTA Executive Director Steve Schlickman said it was too soon to tell if Madigan’s move is a breakthrough. And some lawmakers in both parties worried the plan would merely blow a $385 million hole in the budget because it doesn’t specify how gas-tax funds would be replaced.

But, as I understand it, they always “redirect” from the Road Fund. So this is really nothing new. We’ll be back here again next year, or the year after, with the same exact problem.

By the way, according to StateMaster there are about 8.5 million licensed drivers in Illinois. So $385 million works out to $47.80 per driver. Just in case you were curious.
