You would think saggy pants would be a good crime deterrent. It’s hard to imagine a purse snatcher being very effective if his pants are around his ankles. Just imagine him hopping down the sidewalk, purse in one hand, pulling his pants up with the other. Come on.  But some townships seem to think sagging britches have the opposite effect. What’s more, they scare off retailers. Solution? Ban saggy pants.

This raises a great discussion about federalism. If you are a federalist, and believe in divided and local governance, you probably don’t have a problem with such a stupid law because Lynwood is the only communty that will suffer the consequences. And if the law doesn’t work it can easily be repealed.

However, a die hard civil-libertarian might argue there are certain fundamental rights that no municipality can take away and dressing is one of them.

I’m torn. What do you think?
