In a brief telephone interview, Jones confirmed his retirement and said “We’ll see” when asked whether his son, Emil Jones III, would succeed him. Jones spokeswoman Cindy Davidsmeyer said the senator wants his son to replace him and would file paperwork Monday to have his own name removed from the Nov. 4 ballot. It would be up to Chicago Democratic ward committeemen to decide who would take his place.
