It Sucks Getting Laid Off
Posted by Mike | June 3, 2008 | |
I’ve never been fired before. And while I wasn’t let go from Sam Adams for performance reasons, it still stings a little. Anyone who has any ideas about what I should do next, feel free to post them in the comments.

Get out your rolodex and work your contacts. With only one notable exception, every job I’ve gotten has been through personal or business contacts — not a headhunter. Be really positive, too. Yes, being let go sucks. But it also means that there’s an opportunity you might not ever have dreamed of out there with your name on it just waiting for you to pay attention and find it.

OK…. Here Goes
1. You were not fired! You were laid-off or downsized.
2. from someone who has been thru this alot. Of course it is going to sting! Of course your feelings are going to hurt. WE identify with what we do.
3. Think of the first week as an opportunity to think. If there is a severence, the first week can be something that you could address all those things that you are “meaning to do” like cleaning that closet at home.
4. Think what are your core skills, etc.
