Living and breathing in the Second City
I had no idea Spielberg was working on a Lincoln movie. But I guess he is. It should be awesome except that Abe will be played by Liam Neeson, a choice I just can’t figure. Question is, who SHOULD play Lincoln?

I would make the argument that a no-name character actor should portray Lincoln.
My thoughts are this: Nick Nolte portrayed Thomas Jefferson in a film. He may have been good, I never saw the full film in its entirety, but I can tell you that all I saw was Nick Nolte in period costume.
The same could be said for Jeff Daniels portraying George Washington, or Anthony Hopkins as Richard Nixon.
All of the Presidents the actors portayed were almost “mythic-like.” Despite how good the actor that portrays him might be, one can’t help but see the actor.
That said, it would help the viewer greatly, if who we saw on the big screen portraying arguably one of the greatest Presidents (some Southerners may disagree) we have had, is someone who is not so easily recognizable.

I thought Neeson is a good choice. He may not be that tall but he looks like honest Abe. Though it might be best for a character actor who isn’t very well known to take the part.

Yeah, I imagine Neeson will do a good job looking the part. And I think the other good thing about Neeson is that he doesn’t have a voice that sounds like the stogy old character actors of old. He’ll make it a little more human. But I still wonder if there’s anyone out there who might be better suited … maybe there’s not.
